Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and spent her entire childhood living in Chicago. Amy lived in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, until she graduated from junior college. There, her family also resided in the Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught at the American School. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, and a younger brother, Joe. Amy has traveled all over Europe with her entire family and on her own. Since her parents were teachers, they were able to spend the entire summer traveling and camping all over the United States. In actuality, they've been camping in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda in 1994 after the war to aid in the relief efforts. Amy displayed her talent for art early on by acting in school plays, as well as winning writing contests. High school was where she excelled as an athlete taking part in the first ever 3200 meter relay race for girls in the Illinois track. After suffering an injury, Amy went back to university and was a part of the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth July” and then directed Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon. Amy has graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) Cum laude and graduated with an A.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. She moved to Chicago shortly after and then studied Improv at the Improv Olympic and acting in the theater at The Actor's Center. After graduation she was offered a permanent job on the no longer-running soap series Another World (1964). In the category of "Outstanding supporting actress in the Daytime Drama Series", she has been nominated to Daytime Emmy Awards. The most memorable of her roles include of strong women playing Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone in Falcone (2000), Katie Owen in Peacemakers (2003) alongside Tom Berenger in Peacemakers (2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods. Carlson lives in New York City with husband Syd Butler, the bassist of Les Savy Fav, where she also works in the independent music business as part-owner of an independent label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy is still working in the field of film and writing.
