Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones was born Los Angeles, California to Quincy Jones, a media producer and mogul, and Peggy Lipton, Rashida is the younger sister of actress Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones. Her older sister is Kidada Jones, and five half-siblings through her father's other relationships. Her father is African-American, and her mother is Ashkenazi Jewish (a descendant from migrants to Russia and Latvia). Rashida was born into Reform Judaism. She was raised in Bel Air Los Angeles, California. Jones stated that her mixed-race parentage was not accepted by society until the 1970s. Jones began her professional acting career was in The Last Don (1997), a mini-series that was based on Mario Puzo's novel. Rashida was also a Harvard University graduate in 1997. The course was at the Buckley School, Sherman Oaks, California. She was awarded the Most Likely to Succeed Award. Arabic (O+O'UO O(c)) is her nickname. It means "Major", mature, mature and smart. Rashida's father, who is African-American, also has a lesser amount of English, Scottish and Welsh family ancestry (some ancestral ancestors of her African family are from the Tikar people of Cameroon). Rashida's mother, Ashkenazi Jewish (of Russian Jewish heritage as well as Latvian Jewish heritage), is Rashida. Her maternal grandparents were from South Carolina and Mississippi. Her maternal grandfather was born in New York, and her maternal grandmother was born in Dublin, Ireland, of Eastern European Jewish origin. She has played three characters named "Karen" since 2009 on the popular TV comedy show Freaks and Geeks (1999), Stella (2006), and The Office (2005).
